Fargesia dracocephala

Bamboo. Ht 6 -8ft. Dark green dense foliage,ideal hedging, screening or pots. Very hardy -20oC. Sun/part shade. Evergreen. Clump forming, doesn’t run.

Fargesia nitida

Ht to 9ft. Extremely hardy -25oC. Prefers cool and shady site. Best as solitary clump, hedging,screening or tubs.Evergreen. Dainty, graceful and arches at summit. Clump forming, doesn’t run.

Fargesia nitida Eisenach

Ht to 9ft. Extremely hardy -25oC.A less vigorous form with thinner canes. Prefers cool and shady site. Best as solitary clump, hedging,screening or tubs. Evergreen. Dainty, small leaved. Clump forming, doesn’t run.

Fargesia murielae Jumbo

Ht to 9ft. thick compact plant. Overhanging growth and light green shoots. Best in large containers or planted individually. Extremely hardy. Will grow in sun but best in semishade. Clump forming, doesn’t run.

Fargesia murielae Simba

Ht 5-7ft. Suitable small gardens for hedging or pots. Forms dense clump doesn't run. Any free draining soil. Very hardy. Will grow in sun but best in semishade. Clump forming, doesn’t run.

Hibanobambusa tranquillans shiroshima

Very rare bamboo with leaves variegated green and cream. Ht upto 10ft. Hardy to -22oC. Prefers light shade or part sun. Best as a solitary specimen. Good in centre of a lawn.

Indocalamus tesselatus

Largest leaved hardy bamboo.Leaves can be 2ft long.  Canes bend forming rounded mound. Ht 4-6ft. Spreads.Hardy to -18oC. Good

Golden Bamboo. All soils. Sun or half shade.Hardy to -18oC. Will run slowly after 4 years. Plant as single specimen or in a tub. Will grow indoors. Ht 15ft or more

Phyllostachys aureasulc. aureocaulis

Deep yellow ochre stems with groove becoming red. Rare variety. Hardy to -23oC.  Ht 15ft or more . Full sun or  light shade.

Phyllostachys bissetii

Graceful bamboo with arching habit and zig zag stems which are quite golden or green. New shoots beige and brown striped wine. Ht 10ft. Very hardy (-17C). Plant in mixed borders or as a specimen plant. Doesn’t run.

Stems green then polished black upto 15ft or more. Hardy to -18oC. Full sun or light shade. One of most decorative of bamboos

Phyllostachys nigra Boryana

One of the most beautiful and stately of bamboos. Stems light green first year then with purple or dark brown mottling or blotches. Ht up to 15ft or more. Hardy to -20oC. Full sun or light shade.Upright with some arching at apex. An excellent individual specimen plant

Phyllostachys viridi-glaucescens

Underside of leaves greenish blue. Deep green highly polished stems aging to buff. Violet blotches on some stems. Very hardy (-20oC). Upright habit. Ht 20ft or more in warmer areas. Will do best in sheltered sunny site. May run slightly. Will form a dense screen.

Phyllostachys vivax aureocaulis

Stems turning yellow with variable green stripes. Ht 15ft or more. Hardy to -20oC. Full sun or light shade.

Pleioblastus p.v. distichus

Dwarf bamboo. Ht to 18". Compact growth suitable small borders, rockeries. Doesn't spread. Prefers semishade. Distinctive fern like appearance. One of tiniest.

Pleioblastus pygmaeus

Tiniest of all hardy bamboos. Carpet forming and useful groundcover. Ht up to 1ft, taller in shade. Can be used in tub. Sun or part shade.

Pleioblastus variegatus

Dwarf white striped bamboo. Ht 3ft, evergreen slow spreading. Best of white variegated varieties. Very hardy.Sun or part shade.

Pleioblastus simonii variegated

Ht up to 20ft.Will remain much smaller in a tub. Sun to light shade. Hardy to -18oC

Pleioblastus viridistriatus

A very attractive golden variegated bamboo with vivid yellow and green stripes. Leaf colour is best in sunny position. Hardy to –22oC. Ht 3 to 4 ft. Runs slightly, but is easily controlled. If leaves are marked in Winter it can be cut hard back to encourage a mass of fresh, bright spring growth.

Pseudosasa japonica

Arrow bamboo. Ht to 15ft. Dense growth. Very Hardy. Requires soil not dry. Use as individual clump, trimmed hedge or indoors. Sun or part shade. One of few bamboos suited for a windbreak in cold exposed positions.

Sasa tsuboiana

One of largest leaved bamboos. Ht up to 3ft.Forms bright green clumps. Hardy. Any garden site. Good ground cover plant.

Sasaella masamuneana albostriata

Ht 2-3ft. Dwarf hardy bamboo. Green in Spring, but with broad white stripes in Summer. Suitable for solitary planting, as a clump, in a border or tub. Any situation

Semiarundinaria fastuosa

Tall, fully upright stately large glossy green leaved species. Hardy to –22oC. Ht 20ft. Does not run very much. Most of foliage high up on plant therefore doesn’t shade out other plants. Use as specimen plant, as a secure hedge or as a pot plant for a cool conservatory or a patio

Yushania anceps

Rich green glossy leaves and green widely spaced stems. Ht up to 12ft. Hardy to –18oC
